Description
The Merlin 4 along with its sister, the Metro, was built in the seventies which was the workhorse of the commuter industry for many years carrying up to nineteen passengers, some of which today have exceeded 40,000 hours. The wings are one piece construction from tip to tip with layered spars for anti-failure and Titanium lacing from engine to engine for extra durability. There are no landing gear overhauls or wing bolt inspection and replacements. N727DP has AWI Alcohol Water Injection for high altitude airports which give it a substancial increase in Horsepower for take-off. The Max Flow valves increase the airflow on the ground by 20% making the cabin comfortable in the summer. DP has the later style cockpit config with the large annunciator panel and lock switches. This aircraft has true airspeeds of 260-283 knots depending on outside temperatures and loading with fuel burn of 85-90 gph at cruise altitude. The front cargo bay will hold up to 800 pounds (including avionics) while the massive rear cargo compartment up to 600 pounds. Besides fuel gauges there are Fuel Magnometers under the wings to verify fuel quantity.
This unique aircraft has been in the family since 1998 and flown by one pilot until he retired in October 2016. Used primarily by the CEO of Hellas Construction for family vacations, retreats, and some corporate travel.
The Aircraft was painted in 2010 by Deer Horn Aviation in Midland, Texas. In 1998, the cabinets were refurbished along with the headliner. A new partial interior was done in February 2016 including carpet, leather seats and side panels. Wing and Tail De-ice Boots were replaced in February 2016 also.
Seating configuration is 16 total, with one four place and one two place couches. No damage history except for minor hangar rash to an elevator tip due to backing in to a hangar beam.
