1967 Tricycle Gear Helio Super Courier HT-295
The tri-gear conversion of the Super Courier is easier to fly and will take off and land shorter than the conventional gear version. Having received an EXTENSIVE two year refurbishment & upgrade in 2013 at the CubCrafters Authorized Service Center in Hillsboro, Oregon; we believe this is the best quality tricycle gear Helio Super Courier in the world.
You won’t find a better aircraft to haul heavy loads in and out of the back country than this awesome aircraft.
In 1966 this Helio was purchased by the USAF and initially assigned to the 129th Special Operations Aviation Company (SOAC) out of Hayward, California. It served in Vietnam and Laos from 1967 until the early 1970’s. In 1975 it was one of 15 aircraft converted by the government to the nose wheel gear configuration for the Civil Air Patrol.
Nose wheel conversions of the legendary Helio are hard aircraft to find.
Of the 500 or so Couriers built, only a very few were converted by the Government to tricycle gear aircraft. With the ability to get a higher angle of attack on takeoff, they are off the runway (if you even need a runway) much quicker than the conventional gear version. Similarly, you can stop a nose wheel Helio shorter than than the tail wheel version with with the better braking and directional control that the tricycle gear configuration affords.
With minimum controllable airspeed of less than 30 MPH the Helio Super Courier will go places that the pilot of a Cessna 180 or 185 simply can’t imagine. It also flies faster and, with 120 gallons of fuel capacity, has more range than other similar STOL aircraft. The spacious cabin comfortably seats four adults and the Helio truly has enough useful load (1039 lbs) to bring fuel, passengers, and gear on your next backcountry adventure.
