According to the POH, the Gross Weight is 1260 lbs.
According to the new W&B available the new Empty Weight is 813.1
So, if these numbers are accurate the Useful load is 446.9

The Standard and Special 8A are the same gross weight.  The Empty weight difference is 26 pounds.  The difference between the original 8A Special empty weight, and this one, is the C85 and electric starter and generator.  It is time to modernize the equipment to gain some payload!  I'll bet, with the new starter and geared alternator you'd drop the empty weight back to factory specs; 776 pounds.
