This plane was one of 27 modified A36 Bonanzas for use in Southeast Asia under the Pave Eagle II program. Delivered to the Air Force. It carried a large generator above the engine to power the electronic equipment. It had a Barion B-55 wing and tip tanks for additional range, giving it over 6 hrs endurance. It was used in Operation Igloo White to monitor traffic along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. In 1970 a detachment of the 553 re Reconaissance Wing, later the 554 Reconnaissance Squadron known as the "Vampires" conducted operational flights using the QU-22B. They would orbit around the HCMT picking up signals from the ground sensors from the Igloo White acoustic and vibration sensing units and relay this information back to the information Surveillance Center at Nakhon Phanom Thai AFB. The program was cancelled in 1972. This plane was put back together in 1992.
