Devised from the 1943 Russian Yak-18, the Nanchang CJ-6A was redesigned to incorporate a larger 285 HP engine and retractable landing gear for better training to transition to jet aircraft. Still in use, this aircraft is a very docile, fully aerobatic, World War II looking aircraft with all parts still available and relatively inexpensive. (A complete new engine for approx 12K). This aircraft is one of the lowest total time aircraft ever to be released by the Chinese (most CJ-6A have at lease 4000 to 6000 hrs) and is a pre-moratorium aircraft which means there are no program reports to FAA and no mile or flight restrictions.
