Whether you are looking for your own private owner-flown airliner, or would rather ride in the lap of luxury, while enjoying the WiFi controlled satellite radio and DVD entertainment system, N579TX is ready to defy your expectations of an entry level turboprop. Bison Aviation, LLC is pleased to present N579TX, a truly exceptional Swearingen Merlin IIB. Without a doubt, N579TX is the nicest example of a Merlin IIB flying in the United States today, a statement we can confidently make thanks to our deep familiarity with the Merlin IIB fleet. Purchased three years ago and operated in regular weekly service since, this airframe has gone through a total refurbishment and has seen the best maintenance that money can buy. This is a true “no expenses spared” airplane, flown regularly by a professional pilot on several trips each week for VERY demanding owners. N579TX is by no means a “hangar queen,” quite the opposite, she is the true “queen of the fleet”! After acquiring N579TX for the current owners in late 2013, Bison Aviation, LLC initiated a complete tip to tail refurbishment and overhaul program. The airframe was inspected with a fine-tooth comb and the engines were enrolled on full JSSI Premium coverage. The avionics were updated to modern standards and the paint and interior were completely refurbished in a striking executive theme. N579TX has remained on Bison Aviation, LLC’s executive aircraft management program ensuring that the plane would always be ready to provide safe reliable service on a moment’s notice. Now the time has come for the owners to step up to a new plane, and this is your chance to own this beautiful and capable aircraft. Flying the Merlin IIB: The Swearingen Merlin IIB represents one of the best kept secret in business aviation. While the Merlin IIB and better known Merlin III series share the same spacious fuselage, that is where the similarities end, the wing, tail, landing gear, and nose of the Merlin IIB are completely different. In fact, the wings and tail are from the venerable Beechcraft Queen Air and the landing gear is from the much beloved Twin Bonanza. By comparison, the Merlin IIB is docile and a pleasure to fly, not unlike the King Air (which is really no surprise, given their airfoil similarity). To ease the new owner’s transition into N579TX, the owners have agreed to pay for the purchaser’s initial insurance-approved training course, which will be conducted in N579TX at the purchaser’s home airport. In addition to N579TX, the purchaser will have the option of also acquiring N158CA at no additional cost. N158CA is a 1968 Merlin IIB which has been utilized as a “parts-donor” airframe for N579TX. There are no engines or props, but a significant amount of airframe parts remain intact. N158CA is included in the sale of N579TX, but the purchaser is not obligated to take this parts airframe if that is their preference. Bison Aviation, LLC encourages all prospective purchasers to inquire about our corporate aircraft management programs. We have very extensive experience with Merlin IIB series aircraft and are confident that our services would be a strong asset for anyone considering N579TX. Through our network of vendors, we are able to secure discounts on goods and services which more than offset the cost of our service over the course of a year.

    Airframe

    Airframe Notes
With only 7165 hours on the airframe, N579TX has significantly less than the fleet average of 10,340 hours and thousands of hours of useful life remaining. The airframe has been extensively maintained over the course of the last few years and anytime a squawk has come up, it was quickly, and professional remedied. Virtually all of the airframe maintenance has been carried out at East Texas Turbines, known as the foremost experts on the Merlin IIB series aircraft. The air conditioning system has been upgraded to the latest Zee Systems offering and was fully overhauled in 2015. It is one of the coldest aircraft AC systems we have ever seen! Perfect for our hot Texas summers.

    Engine Program

    Engine Program Notes
The engines installed on N579TX are true Garrett / Honeywell TPE331-6-252 engines, not the -1 to -6 conversions that are sometimes found on these planes. The right engine just underwent a scheduled hot section inspection at National Flight Services less than 50 hours ago, the left engine has approximately 500 hours remaining until its first hot section inspection is due. In addition, these engines are fully enrolled and up to date on JSSI’s Premium engine maintenance program. This program provides essentially 100% coverage for all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on the right engine and prorated coverage on the left engine (with JSSI’s share being roughly 85%). The prorated coverage will convert to 100% coverage after the left engine has gone through its hot section inspection. JSSI coverage can be transferred to the new owners, or dropped, if they do not wish to continue coverage.
