Description
How would you like to own one of the most unique and special Warbirds out there? This airplane has been in my family for over 30 years and whenever we would bring her to an Air Show people would gawk and stare all the time. This Bird has a story and is known all throughout the Midwest. Maybe you've heard of the SNJ that has a real .30 caliber bullet hole right in the middle of the prop blade??
My Dad bought this airplane in 1970 in California. He and I drove out from Milwaukee to Ca. to pick it up. I was going to college there, so when he left to fly back I watched him till he was out of sight as well as sound. Sound, you say? You bet, my Dad's SNJ whistles whenever it's within three miles of where you are standing. It's not loud, or objectionable, but I can tell it's her every time my dad would fly over to visit me in Minneapolis.
My dad had the engine overhauled by Covington years ago, and it still has less than 200 hours SMOH on the chrome major. Compressions are great, and she does not go through oil like some others I have seen. This is also very likely the lowest Total Time airplane to come out of the Military. Right now she has just over 2,000 hours TTSN with No Major Damage history, ever. The radio mast and the big football behind the rear canopy are gone now, that being said this airplane is as original as possible. She looks great, but you can tell this is not one of those "over restored" airplanes that doesn't look anything like the real thing used to.
Dad is 86 now, and the airplane has been mine for the last 12 years. My son and I are in the Aviation business and the last two years have been brutal. That's why I have decided to sell the SNJ. My loss is your gain. If you want a really good, sound airplane with a neat story than this is your bird. Please give me a call at (612-759-8507). I can send you a complete e-brochure as well as any copies of log books, etc.
Sincerely: Tim Ashenfelter

Ps: The hole in the prop is totally legal. I have the original Mil Spec that shows how to balance the prop and smooth out any rough edges. I also have two near new seat pack parachutes and a new Jet Fighter Helmet (white and ready for your custom colors). I've also updated the radio's, King KX-155 digital, KLN-94 IFR color GPS, KMA-24 audio panel, KX-170B #2 Nav-Com, Sigtronics intercom w/ push to talk on the stick. The aircraft can be certified for IFR Flight if you wish.
