Description
Empty weight is 1425. Gross with extended tips is 2200. There are no weight and balance issues--at
least certainly not aft CG. This airplane has the 200hp angle valve engine and battery on firewall with
constant speed prop. It would be a challenge to exceed the aft CG limit. The main tank is standard
config (not split) placarded at 40gals (it actually holds 44gal). Each extended tip holds 5.5 gal. Header
tank is placarded at 6 gallons. If more than that is added it will slosh out the vent and come out under
the aircraft. The engine originally is from an Arrow II and was overhauled once when we bought it as a
hurricane salvage.
Engine was overhauled at Western Skyways in Montrose, CO with new ECI CermiNil cylinders in 2003.
The engine was torn down again in 2005 when a mechanic mis-adjusted the Lightspeed Plasm III
electronic ignition and the cylinders overheated and it began burning oil. At that time the engine was
removed and shipped back to CO and they did an entire engine tear down and inspection and re-ringed
and honed the cylinders. Since then the engine has been flawless and at last annual compressions
(June) were 78 76 78 78. The engine burns goes through a quart of oil probably every 8 to 10 hours--
mostly out the crank breather. Cruise speeds of course depend on altitude and fuel burn but high
power cruise at 6k would typically be 185 to 190 knots. On a recent test flight the following was
recorded: at 6500ft 23 in man pressure and 2300 RPM I was running 40 degrees lean of peak burning 8.7
gph and we were doing 179 knots TAS. The injectors have been flow balanced and the aircraft runs well
LOP. Pretty much every option Glasair offered is built into the aircraft. Right side brakes. Electric
aileron and elevator trim on pilots' stick. Electric slotted flaps. Emergency gear extension pump. Extra
set of vinyl seats (in case you are inclined to save the leather ones). Custom cover, and more that I am
overlooking. I will add to the above fuel burn for the "high power" cruise is probably 11.5 gph
