Description
If you are looking for the best built Glasair III with the best avionics and best looking cosmetics you have just found it.
This Glasair III was built in 2001 by an engineer that paid perfect attention to detail quality. There is not a better built Glasair airframe available.
You need to see this plane and fly it to fully understand what makes this plane special. Of course, the G3X system is the focal point here. I don't know where to start to tell you why this system truly is the only system to have. With the dual screens you have full redundancy including dual ADHARS units and automatic battery backup in case of full electrical buss failure. The integrated Garmin autopilot is absolutely amazing. It not only has altitude pre-select, it further has the ability to climb/descend with IAS and VS. It also has a "straight & level" button the will right the aircraft from any attitude with one button push. It will also fly a full V/Nav profile. The autopilot is rock solid and dead on. No hunting in pitch or roll. The autopilot is even adjustable for gain and torque with a touch of the screen - while you are flying! The built-in engine monitor is far better than anything you can buy in the certified market. With full ADS-B in/out, traffic, weather, AOPA, charts, maps, flight plan, video input, data recording, and much more all with the touch of a finger there truly is nothing better. It will even send ADHARS data directly to your iPad or IPhone using the Garmin Pilot App. Again, you have to see it operate to understand how great it is. I have flown multi-million dollar brand new jets that do not have the capability this panel has.
The engine has 412 hours and was factory new in 2001. It has Plasma III electronic ignition along with a magneto backup. It also has GAMI injectors which provide the ability to run very smoothly lean of peak with a GAMI spread of only .2 GPH between cylinders. The engine starts easily hot or cold and runs perfectly. Attached to it is a brand new Hartzell Super Simitar prop that is built specifically for the Glasair III.
The paint is stunning and the interior is just flat out luxurious. I spent a lot of time picking colors and schemes of both with attention to detail for durability and function.
The performance of this Glasair is what it sets it apart from other airplanes. Honest cruise at 12,000 ft is 215 knots burning 14 GPH or 208 knots burning 12 GPH. 12,00- is it's optimal altitude for speed/fuel economy. Below 12k requires more fuel to go the same speed and above 12k you lose about 1 knot per thousand feet. I have had the plane to 18k ft and it still climbs well at that altitude. Initial climb is 2500 FPM at 135 knots indicated and will hold over 1000 FPM above 10k FPM. The control feel in this plane is solid. It truly feels like an extension of your own body. You simply point the plane and it goes - there is no delay.
One huge benefit of the Glasair III is not only it's +9/-6 airframe limitations, but it's 245-knot green arc and nearly 300-knot VNE. You can stay up high as long as you like and then descend at 6k FPM to limit your time in he bumps or to satisfy controllers request and still be in the green arc! There is not a another plane with the airspeed limitation range that the Glasair III has. I routinely descend at 230-260 knots indicated to take advantage of smooth air as long as possible. Also, the high wing loading provides for a very smooth rides where the plane cuts through rough air instead of bouncing around in it.
Finally, this Glasair has 72 Gallons available with the long wing tips on (I recommend them.) It also has a quick-detach baggage tank that holds an additional 12 gallons making total useable fuel 84 gallons. The conservative IFR range is over 1100 miles with the baggage tank installed and 900+ miles without. I have flown this plane non-stop from NE Indiana to Fort Myers, FL many times with over an hour of fuel to spare. This was done without the baggage tank, 2 adults, and nearly 100 lbs of bags. Useful load is almost 1000 lbs and CG is not a concern.
I am a CFI and can provide transition training. I will also deliver to any State in the US other than Hawaii. I am not afraid to fly this plane anywhere.
Insurance is readily available and will run approximately $3500 per year for full hull coverage and $1M liability for qualified pilots. A qualified pilot would be one with an instrument rating, 250 hours of Retract/High performance time, and a good record.
The are multiple videos of this plane on YouTube under the name "DukePilot." You can see the plane before and after the interior/panel upgrades on these videos.
