Description
Own a piece of history. This is a beautifully restored Cessna 140 with a unique past. Low-time Continental C-85 engine with a brand new Marvel-Shebler MA 35PA carburetor. A custom cover by Bruce's is also included.
The year is 1946. Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole are topping the charts. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels give their first public performance. And a Cessna 140 with the serial number 10165 rolls off the assembly line in Wichita.
But this Cessna 140 was immediately delivered to a buyer in Mexico and would not see U.S. airspace again for 13 years. Just exactly what it did south of the border has been lost to history. But the few records that remain indicate that it was probably flown by a rancher.
If you do a search of this aircraft you will find the eyebrow-raising date of manufacture listed as 1959. We all know that Cessna stopped building 140s in 1951, so what gives? Well, in 1959 the airplane was sold by the Mexican rancher to a pilot in Tucson, Arizona and received its first ever U.S. airworthiness certificate. Since the FAA generally equates the airworthiness certificate with the date of manufacture, you now have a rare “1959” Cessna 140!
