History: Developed after world war ii, the Chipmunk was the first aircraft designed by Dehavilland of Canada to replace the Dehavilland Tiger Moth as a single engine trainer. The first Chipmunks were produced in Ontario, canada as the primary trainer for the Royal Canadian Air Force. Later, over 1,000 were produced in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England as the primary trainer for the Royal Air Force of which N31376 was one of. Changes to the RAF version included the "greenhouse" multi-paneled canopy, an upgrade to the Gipsy Major Mk 8 engine and the ability for the aircraft to be fully aerobatic. Of the 1,217 Chipmunks built in canada and england, less than 500 are in restorable to flying condition. Not fully retired until 1996, the DHC-1 was used at one time or another in the air forces of 23 separate nations. Comments: This is one of the most authentic, original Chipmunks in the world. Flying this aircraft is like stepping back in time. Chipmunk, original and beautiful. Great english history
