The Wing Derringer was designed by John Thorpe (Piper Aircraft fame) and developed by George Wing. George Wing invented the Hi-Shear Rivet and the Hi-Loc Rivet and founded the Hi Shear Rivet Company. His love of airplanes led him to the development of the Wing Derringer. Several engineers who were involved in the development of the Century Series fighter jets from North American Aviation were largely responsible for the Wing Aircraft being awarded a Type Certificate from the FAA for the Derringer. This Derringer 8601A was formerly owned by renowned author and aviator Ernest K. Gann. His wife, Dodie, won the Air Race Classic several years ago with this airplane. There have been only three U.S. Owners and the airplane has always been hangared. It has had impeccable maintenance with a very thorough and comprehensive service by Flight Research, Inc in 1999. Included with the purchase is a very extensive parts inventory with a complete set of engineering drawings from Wing Aircraft Co. It is truly a beautiful airplane with exceptional performance and wonderful flying characteristics. It is a real joy to fly. This distinctive airplane with its impeccable maintenance, engineering drawings, and parts inventory is for the discriminating pilot.
