The Stearman is one of the best-known and mass-produced biplanes. The development of the aircraft by the Stearman Aircraft Company can be backtracked to 1927. The Stearman Aircraft Company became a subsidiary of The Boeing Company in 1934. That is why the name of the original designer could be identified in the classification. The prototype still took off under the name of STEARMAN X-70. These aircrafts were used as trainers with the USAF under the names of PT-13, PT-17 and PT-18 Kaydet. They were equipped with different types of engine.
