Description
Helio aircraft have been world-famous for over 45 years for their Short Take Off and Landing capabilities and can operate safely and easily out of 1,000 ft., or shorter, unimproved airstrips. The Helio is built around a roll-cage capable of withstanding 15 G’s. It is one of the only aircraft in the world to have such a safety feature. It sports a 295-horsepower Lycoming GO-480 engine and a 9-foot diameter Hartzell prop. The Courier takes off at 45-50 knots indicated airspeed and approaches at the same speed. In STOL takeoff mode it can climb at 1,500 per minute up to a safe altitude. Lightly loaded with minimum fuel and no wind, the takeoff run is about 150 feet conservatively with a comparable or shorter landing roll. In a stiff wind the Helio has been known to hover and fly backwards. With no wind the Helio can fly at 30 miles per hour with a published stall speed of 26 miles per hour. Cruise 135-155 MPH. Fuel consumption varies at 12-16 gallons per hour.
