NOTES ON 2013 RESTORATION: N187D is almost certainly the most authentic L-39 flying today. During its long restoration project, the aircraft was completely dismantled and restored to better-than-new condition, using the highest-possible quality standards, procedures, and parts. More than 10,000 careful and meticulous man-hours were spent on this restoration over a span of nearly 17 years. The owner utilized original, New Old Stock (NOS) parts whenever possible. Many parts were overhauled to original specifications, using original equipment and completed by experienced, former East German military technicians! Nearly every nut and bolt, every screw and fastener, and every painted marking is authentic. Even the East German Air Force camouflage paint job was accomplished using original-specification paint. Here are some other examples of the level of restoration work accomplished: -- New wing. -- New hydraulic system. -- New pneumatic system. -- New oxygen system and survival systems. -- New landing gear. -- New main and aux fuel tanks. -- New brakes and tires. -- New canopies. -- New high-performance gel batteries. -- New Saphir-5 (APU) -- New, modern avionics integrated into original systems with great care, in order to preserve the originality of the aircraft and cockpits. -- Instrument panels were renewed and matched to originals. -- Seats are completely new and can be used in cold configuration or easily adapted to hot condition. -- Parachutes are in new condition, and freshly packed. -- The aircraft is fitted with four new under-wing pylons with fuel connections for up to four external fuel tanks. Included are 4 x 150-liter and 2 x 350-liter external tanks. -- Authentic instrument flying hood fitted in front cockpit. Easily removable if desired.
