Airframe
Airframe Notes
This airframe is well know for its speed and efficiency. The owner builder made many improvements to the basic aircraft design. Doors are hinged at the top rather than the side. Each wing has had 3 feet added to the length for a total wing span increase of 6 feet. The original BD4 cowling has been replaced with the more efficient and better looking RV4 cowling. Landing gear has been increased in size substantially and is very tough making this an airplane that can be used on unimproved airstrips. Rear windows have been enlarged for better visibility that the standard design offers. 50 gallons fuel capacity. Castering nose wheel. Landing light in each wing tip. 4 position flaps. Elevator trim. Rudder trim. Aluminum wings (some BD4s have fiberglass wings).

Exterior
Exterior Notes
Paint is the obvious week point of the airplane. Owner freely admits it was a mistake to paint it himself! Paint is not smooth, but is also not coming off the sheet metal. A paint job would make a huge difference in the appearance of this airplane. Prep work before painting at wing tips, etc. could be improved. Fuel stain on paint on top of wing seen in photo was from leak that was repaired.
