This aircraft belonged to my father, who passed away from Cancer several years ago. He loved this airplane and took meticulous care of it. It's in excellent condition, and up to date on all maintenance. It's currently in Wisconsin under the care of a pilot family member, who flies it regularly and is keep it up to date on maintenance.
The Ovation is the classic "long-body" Mooney with flight characteristics like a personal airliner. This aircraft is Normal category, designed for speed and distance, carrying two people more than 5.5 hours and carrying a full four-person load for about 3 hours. At 173 KTAS and leaned to cruise, the Ovation is a wonderful travelling machine with good economy.
The cabin is carpeted and has leather seats with full seatbelt/shoulder harness restraints and four-person intercom. Connect an iPod and the passengers can listen to music while the pilot converses with ATC. The cabin is compact but very comfortable for average sized passengers. A baggage compartment and luggage shelf aft can carry up to 120 lb, or fold the rear seats forward for an expanded capacity. Four-place oxygen by nasal prongs or mask allows safety and comfort at altitudes that clear mountain weather and provide for maximum efficiency.
This aircraft is a stable IFR platform with two Nav/Coms, HSI, Flight Director, GPS, Argus map, ADF, DME, marker beacon, and BFG strikefinder. The heated prop and pitot are adequate ice protection for accidental encounters. The autopilot with altitude/VS preselect makes this an efficient cockpit for single-pilot IFR. The pilot’s yoke has controls for speedbrake, microphone, pitch trim, autopilot over-ride, and transponder ident. squawk.
The Continental IO-550G 6-cylinder engine is fuel injected. Engine monitoring is simple with fuel-flow data and cylinder/exhaust temps provided by the Shadin meter and Insight GEM. The engine is ‘derated’ to 280 hp. to allow for a 2000 hour TBO. No cowl flaps are needed, simplifying temperature control, and many pilots fly at altitude leaned beyond peak to get maximum efficiency.
Standard Mooney equipment includes dual landing and taxi lights, wing-tip strobes and recognition lights, and nav and beacon. External oxygen fill and power plugs are mounted on the fuselage near the baggage door. Dual batteries are maintained with trickle-charger/desulfator units that plug into sockets near the aft bulkhead. The 28 v. electrical bus has excellent power and cockpit outlets are present for music in, data in/out, and power. Interior lighting includes map lights, panel lights, glare shield and baggage compartment lighting.
Electric pitch and rudder trim combined with push-rod linkage gives this Mooney a velvet-smooth control feeling for precision flying. Built for speed, Mooneys need to throw out some drag for safe landings, so a combination of flaps, gear, and Precise electric speed brakes is used to reach the threshold at 75 knots in a very controlled manner. In busy airspace, the GPS or Nav system will guide you onto the approach and the autopilot will track and fly the glideslope while the pilot monitors and communicates.
