This 1968 Popular Mechanics Jeanie's Teenie is an all metal experimental airplane. Wingspan is 18 feet and the fuselage is 12 feet long. The wings detach into 6 foot lengths and the plane can fit in the back of a pick-up truck or a car trailer. I have hauled it in the back of my short-bed F-150. The plane would need quite a bit of work to fly, but it could be done. There are other uses for this vehicle of course, such as a fun airplane simulator. If you don't want to fly it the plane could also be used for advertising purposes, placed on a pole to direct customers to your place of business or a great toy for the kids or grandkids. And of course it could be used as lawn art. It could even hang in a museum or a theme restaurant. The original builder of this airframe was John Valentine, from Connersville, Indiana. An ex-engineer from Skunk Works in Burbank during the SR-71 project. He started the project in late 1971 after moving from California to Indiana. IT WAS NOT BUILT TO PLANS, which is why it's taking so long. As an example, it was built as a taildragger rather than the tricycle gear. I've been pulling things off with the intention to restore it. At this point you could restore it to original plans or rebuild the corroded steel items with Valentine's intent. Also, it was started a LONG time ago. There is no original builder's log, although I have kept one since I've been working on it. I bought it from someone that said he bought it from an EAA chapter. It was stored in his barn for quite some time, as evindenced by the mouse nest I pulled out of one of the wings. Completed items include: fuselage, elevator, rudder and both wings. It will make somebody a nice airplane. I have no time to finish it. The hard parts are done!!! The work that has been done is exceptional. The rivet work is really well done with most being standard rivets rather than the pop rivets specified in the plans. Unfortunately, all the steel on the plane rusted out. I recently finished removing it all with the intention of replacing it. I've restored and powdercoated a lot of it already. All the items that I removed are included in the sale, including the landing gear. There are also a couple of areas on the aluminum skins that will need to be replaced if you intend to fly it. Although the original construction obviously used some corrosion resistant process, as some of it is still visible, most of it has oxidised away. I recently applied alumiprep 33, metal prep 79 and alodine 1201 to the surfaces I could get to on the fuselage. You will see the results of this process as a slightly orange tint on the aluminum sheet metal (obviously not rust since aluminum oxide is white). I also built one wing and applied the chemicals to that as well, so it's ready to go. The skins will clean up nicely. The construction of the fuselage, wings, rudder and elevator are complete with the exception that the neither the fuselage or elevator were built to plans. The elevator was built as a single moveable surface and the fuselage was built as a taildragger with an enclosed cockpit. Neither of the ailerons have been built, although I started one. This particular airframe was built with the intention of having flaps, and neither the flaps or their extension mecanism has been built. On the way back from Indiana, where I picked it up, I was offered $3000 for it because the guy that saw it was so impressed by the current workmanship. I have the original instruction manual, a copy of the plans (not printed to scale), my builder's log and a CD with a lot of great info that I've collected since I started working on it. Mostly complete. Landing gear and brakes need to be rebuilt. Will need new tires. Ailerons, flaps and flap mechanisms need to be built. A small ding in the vertical stabilizer will need to be repaired.
