    Airframe Notes
N21D is mechanicaly perfect and up to date on all Machen upgrades, including an aux fuel tank, the nose gear structure strength improvement, 6 puck brakes, engine driven a/c compressor 134a,as well as aileron trim and speed brakes. One time STC removable Ozone nose scissor pin Extra speed comes from careful attention to drag and turbulence reduction. Low drag Sensor Systems antennas and their placement, Rigging of gear doors, control surfaces, smoothing of the edges of de ice boots (including prop boots),helped reduce turbulence and drag. Engine intake airflow was smoothed. Exhaust turndowns were reduced closer to the original square cut offs. Cabin heat exchanger intake turbulence was reduced consistent with original adjustable closing flaps. Edges of most square edge exposed washers are tapered.

    Modifications/Conversions

    Modifications/Conversions
N21D is easy to safely fly. It enjoys three attitude indicators all independently powered and two HSIs also independently powerd (pnematic and electric). An ILS displys 4 glide slopes and 3 CDIs. The fully populated annunciator ( low fuel px ,low oil px, low pnu px, low alternator voltage for each engine,hi and low buss voltage CO, and O2 reqd, door open, low fuel, heater failure, below 100 ft with gear up, all driving a master caution light) greatly somplifies systm scan and provides instant warning of trouble. A SafeFlifgt angle of attack meter and stall warning horn combined with an HTL Halon fire warning light and 3 lbs of pressurized Halon offer unique fire extinguishing capabilities. the lowered control yokes eliminate visual blockage of the lower instrument panel. An icing control panel centralizes deice management. A military style lighted scroll checklist soon proves indipensilble. Engie shutdown and restart checlists are on the panel while the limitations are moved to a big sunscreen. A Piper relief tube is just under the seat for older pilots and the seats slide like glass
