Description
Own this vintage, award-winning taildragger and you're guaranteed front row parking at any fly-in! This is a beautiful Champ, once owned by Author and Pilot Richard Bach. It has no internal electrical system, so it must be hand prop started and has no COMM or NAV radios. But if you're looking for a truly authentic flying experience, then this airplane is your ticket.
The airplane was meticulously restored in 1994 at Thun Field Pierce County Airport in Puyallup, WA, where among other things, all steal parts were sandblasted, primed and coated; all aluminum parts were cleaned, etched, and primed; all of the wooden wing spars, stringers, and the floorboards were replaced with new, period appropriate materials; and the entire airframe was covered using Stits Poly-Fiber and was repainted following the authentic Aeronca paint scheme. The plane also received new main tires, brakes, and bearings, new control cables, new windows and windshield; new throttle cable, new oil pressure gauge, oil temp gauge, gas gauge, and a new tachometer. Also during the restoration, an overhauled Continental C-65-8A, 65 HP was installed, along with new gas and oil lines, spark plugs and ignition harness. It also received an overhauled McCauley 1B90 propeller. In 1999, a Scott 3000 Steerable Tailwheel was installed.
This aircraft is sport-pilot legal and does not require ADS-B as long as it is remains non-electrical.
NC82278 is currently available for showing and demonstration flights at Arlington Municipal Airport (KAWO), Washington.
