AIRCRAFT NARRATIVE
During the late 1940s and early 1950s, Al Mooney was developing the four-seater M20. When the company moved to Kerrville, Texas, from Wichita, Kansas, the development of the M20 sped up. On September 3, 1953, the Mooney M20 took its first flight and was certified on August 24, 1955. The Mooney M20 series are piston-powered, propeller-driven, four-seater aircraft that feature tricycle gear and low wings. With the exception of early models of the M20 being built with wooden framed wings and tails, M20s are built with aluminum wing skin and constructed completely in metal. The first turbocharged M20 was released in 1979 and known as the M20K 231. Based on the M20J 201, the upgraded M20K 231 increased the fuel capacity of the aircraft to 80 gallons, was powered by a Continental TSIO-360-GB (or LB) and was certified on November 16, 1978. A total of 888 M20K 231s were produced between 1979 to 1985. In early 1986, the new M20K 252 model was introduced and replaced the M20K 232 model. The M20K 252 was capable of reaching 252 miles per hour by its inter-cooled TSIO-360-MB engine and featured a 28-volt electrical system to improve cold-weather starting. A total of 222 M20K 252s were produced between 1986 to 1990. 222 built
