Magnificent DH 104 Sea Devon (Dove) 1954 VH-DHI FOR SALE Constructed by De Havilland Aircraft Co Ltd at their Hawarden plant as a Dove 2A on 22nd January 1953 and, and registered to De Havilland Aircraft Co Ltd, Hatfield as G-AMXZ. On 23.9.54 the aircraft was supplied to the Royal Navy following an order for 10 Sea Devon C.20s, the Naval version of the Dove. The aircraft was taken on charge Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm as Sea Devon C.20 service number XJ324. The aircraft was outfitted with an upholstered interior to the specification of an ‘Admirals Barge’ and retains the well-maintained luxurious appointments appropriate for the transport of VIPs. It is reputed that Prince Charles (now King Charles III) and Lord Louis Mountbatten flew or were flown in this aircraft. In 1990, the Devon was retired by the Royal Navy and listed for civil disposal and sold to a UK aircraft dealer. In 1990 the aircraft XJ324 was sold and transported to Melbourne and was re-assembled at Essendon. In 1990 the aircraft was added to the Australian Civil Register as a Dove VH-DHI. The aircraft was restored and flown again in 2014 whilst retaining her Royal Navy Admirals Barge livery. Total flying time 10,636 hours This aircraft last flew at an Open Day at Caboolture airfield 2019. In late 2020 the Gypsy Queen 70 engines were checked by qualified engineers for compression etc for potential purchasers and found to be completely satisfactory. The port engine has 650 hours to run, and the starboard has 950 hours to run. On 29th Jan 2024 we have had the aircraft out for an engine run and performance systems check, there is video available on request The aircraft has been carefully hangared by the previous owner at Redcliffe and is currently carefully hangared at Caboolture QLD just north of Brisbane. Included in the sale are all logbooks and manuals covering all systems together with a considerable number of Devon spares, new and used, including spare propellor, engine cowls, oleos, long range tanks and mould for pilots’ Perspex canopy and many other significant and valuable spare parts. These components that are included in the sale are securely housed in a 40ft container but please note that the container (box) is not included in the sale price. Where disassembly and packing is required for overseas or local shipment, then skilled labour is available at additional charge. The Devon is capable of flight but is out of MR (current Maintenance Release). The next AD’s are: • Both engine mounts need X-ray, however there are spare mounts so this can be carried out without delay. • Need an engine AD’s plus minor items. • Main planes need to be pulled and mandatory corrosion inspection carried out.
