Description
This meticulously RESTORED (VIRTUALLY NEW) authentic SF260WE/C WARBIRD with many upgrades originally hails from the Irish Air Corp, who used this very capable, yet easy to fly, trainer for gunnery and rocket training and as a light attack fighter. All original log-books are included since it was first introduced into service.
This model is equivalent to a C or D model, with significantly improved handling characteristics over the A or B models and with less weight and fully usable fuel unlike the current E or F models. It is arguably the pinnacle of the SF260 development of aerobatic military trainers. This has been my personal airplane for over 12 years, never abused or stressed to the limit as an aerial combat thrill rider, although it is fully capable of doing so! Parts are readily available from several sources. While the Exp/Exh class permits substitutes, thus guaranteeing you will never get stuck without a part, this bird is 100% OEM, factory built and fully AD/SB compliant.
This bird has just completed a full spinner to tail restoration over 4 years at an additional cost of almost $300K, thus making it unlikely you will have a surprise Annual expense for many years to come. It has a new upgraded/modified IO540D4A5 (est ~ 300-320HP) engine with dual oil coolers, 10:1 helicopter pistons, high lift cam, tuned custom exhaust, oil squirts, a new lightweight starter, tuned GAMIs, REIFF band heater, new mounts, new or zero timed engine accessories, new wiring, and new Hartzell HC-C2YK propeller all with just 133hrs SMOH ... just enough time to shake out any bugs. The interior is mostly NEW, including the glare shield, side panels and rear bolster. The seats have removable Aero memory foam comfortable for long cross-country trips, yet can be quickly converted a bucket style, suitable for a mini-Softie parachute. The jettisonable tinted canopy, windscreen and nylon runners are all NEW. The gear has been completely rebuilt to zero time including Gold Iridite plating over Cadmium over wearable components. A new poly JetGlo paint was applied by ArtCraft Paint in 2021 including 63 stencils faithfully hand reproduced from the original.
A new laser engraved CNC milled panel includes new Garmin avionics, with a G3X, G5, GMC-307 with light weight 2-axis autopilot, GMA345 audio panel, GTN 650 slaved to the G3X (making for a larger screen that the 750), a GN 255A, GTX 345 and GI-106A. The panel has dual nav-coms for IFR redundancy, a functional TOGA, level button and AP disconnect on the stick, heated AOA, accurate CiES digital fuel senders, strobes, LED lights, USB ports, and Bose LEMO connectors, (easily adapted to any type of headset). The ELT has been upgraded to an Artex 1000 406/121.5 Mhz. In Marchetti tradition, the pilot flies from the right seat. The custom IFR panel was set up to have a hybrid of glass and steam gauges to balance situational awareness in complex airspace with the reliability and historic authenticity of moving needles.
This aircraft is light and nimble, yet easily controlled and trims well. The beefy trailing link gear and extended nose strut make landings in either grass or pavement a breeze. The thin "jet-like" wing allows for quick deceleration with aerodynamic braking. The oversized rudder, designed to compensate for hard point ordinance (during military configuration), gives this plane amazing cross-wind abilities and a safety margin not found in most GA aircraft. This plane will even haul a large load and accommodate three adults, making it truly versatile. Hopefully, you will enjoy this all around amazing plane as much as I have. It truly excels in virtually every category!
