Description
For Museum static display purposes only
Available in 2 configurations: As a Military Air Ambulance or As a Civilian Airliner
This aircraft made its first flight on December 14, 1928. It was delivered to Southwest Air Fast Express (Safeway) in Tulsa OK on February 14, 1929. This was their first airplane, fleet #1. The airline name changed to Southern Air Fast Express on October 11, 1930. Safeway was a predecessor to American Airways (American Airlines) who continued ownership until selling the plane to TACA Airlines in Tegucigalpa Honduras on June 6, 1936. The aircraft disappeared in a Central American Jungle in the late 1930’s. Its wreckage was recovered in 1975 on a Nicaraguan Mountain by a retired Pan Am pilot JR Neilander and shipped to Michigan. Its Fuselage was used as a pattern reference for the restoration of 5 Tri-Motors by Maurice Hovious and his Hov-Aire team in Vicksburg Michigan. Following those restorations, Maurice decided to slowly start rebuilding the plane for static display in one of the Nation’s top museums.
After 10 years the aircraft is mostly restored with the exception of instrument panel detail which can easily be finished. The Interior can be completed if a Museum intends to open the door to visitors. The aircraft can be configured as either an Army C-4A with an Ambulance Interior or as a Civilian Aircraft complete with wicker seats. It is a complete aircraft including engines and props , wings, landing gear, all flying surfaces and controls. It is ready for transport to its new home. Seller will transport and assemble the plane on-site at its new location. The aircraft is refinished in primer only. Paint to customer specs is available.
The aircraft is not airworthy and is being offered only as a complete static display artifact.
