N7946C was built in 1944 at North American’s Fairfax Plant in Kansas City. The aircraft was delivered to the U.S. Air Force in August 1944. Assigned to the 12th AF/57th BW/310th BG, based in Italy until returning to the US in July.1945. After being stored in Texas, the airplane was returned to service in 1947, operating in an administrative role at McClellan Field, CA. After ten years of service at McClellan, the airplane was decommissioned and sold as surplus. Through the following years N7946C passed through the hands of numerous owners and operators. In 1978 46C was restored back to military configuration and flew as “Dream Lover”. The aircraft was damaged during a forced landing in the NV desert near Reno, 1987. N7946C was then trucked to Stockton, CA and stored until 1993 when it was sold to World Jet Inc, Fort Lauderdale, FL. An extensive 18,000 hour restoration took place and 46C returned to the air September.16, 1995 as “Old Glory”.
