Description
The DR401/135CDI and 155CDI combine pleasure, simplicity, comfort and safety with dramatically improved cost-effectiveness and reduced noise and vibration levels compared to petrol engines.
These revolutionary turbocharged diesel aircraft combine the famous qualities of the DR401 airframe with highly efficient, economical, quiet and reliable engines. Sixteen times more reliable than Avgas engines*, Continental diesel engines use Jet A-1, the standard fuel of airlines and the military and the only aviation fuel with worldwide availability.
Electronically managed, fuel injected and liquid cooled, the thoroughly modern Continental aeroengines are free of the dangers of carburettor icing and vapour lock, and safe from thermal shock on low power settings.
Turbocharging maintains power delivery at altitude and the automatic variable pitch three-bladed propellor ensures optimum performance both in climb and cruise.
The Continental 2·0 135 hp engine will happily lift a useful load of around 340 kg; enough for five and a half hours of fuel, three adults (or two adults and two children) and a full load of luggage. Burning only 20 litres per hour of Jet A-1 or automotive diesel at 75% power, the economy of the 2·0 is particularly attractive to flying schools looking for a reliable and robust training aircraft.
With 15% more power and 21% more torque for the same empty weight, the 2·0S 155 hp can reach an impressive 460 kg of load; putting some larger aircraft to shame. The improved climb rate and cruise performance still comes with economy—24 litres per hour of Jet A-1 or automotive diesel at 75% cruise power. Clearly attractive to serious tourers, the option for a tow hook and rear view mirror sets the 2·0S also to become a favourite of gliding clubs.
The combination of a stable yet responsive airframe, the most reliable piston engines for use in general aviation, economical use of relatively inexpensive and widely available fuel, and the option of analogue or digital flight displays make a compelling argument in favour of the EcoFlyers!
