Description
This unique aircraft was built up as new by Westpac Restorations in 1989 from North American NA-50 drawings, using an SNJ4 fuselage, T6G wings shortened by 72" to a wingspan of 35'6" and with the center wing flap faired over, and a SNJ2/NA50 style rudder installed. The installed Pratt & Whitney R1340-61 3/2 geared engine with the large 12:1 blower has left and right exhausts. Landings with the full length NA-50 style 23D40-311 propeller blades are full stall (however blade length can be shortened).
Given the wings, aerodynamic fuselage and retractable tail wheel, and the -61 engine with the big blower, performance is greatly improved over the Texan, yet the NA50 can be flown in AT6 formations.
