Description
My CJ-6A was built in 1970 and was Chinese military. It was rebuilt in 1997 by Steve Culp, the designer and builder of the Culp Special, as a airshow performer with long range capabilities. The plane was restored frame up with complete stripping and alodyne treatment of the frame. New stainless steel control cables pulleys and bearings on the control surfaces with new Stits fabric. The plane was rewired and stripped of any unneeded weight, new aeroquip hoses and a cut down P-51 spinner installed. The exhaust is stainless steel and a U.S. style air attachment was installed. It also has a 50 Amp alternator. The instruments are almost all new and the front panel was completly redone. It has a KX125 NavComm and a KY97 Comm with a KT76A transponder with encoder. There is a Garmin 195 hardwired in the plane. The intercom is a PS 2000 with a music hookup which works well in the plane. The plane has a fully carpeted baggage compartment and 40 gallon [30 and 10 aux. fuel tanks which extend the planes range to over 5 hours. There is a flop tube in the fuel tank and an inverted oil for sustained inverted flight. It is plumbed for smoke if you want to sacrifice the 10 Gal fuel tank in the back. It also has provisions on the engine for an oil drain kit which it doesn't need as the engine is very dry for a radial. It has nice glove leather seats, and a Hooker harness with a 2nd safety belt. Now has new brakes as well
The plane weighs 2100 pounds with oil, it has 550 hours on a new engine and prop with 4500 hours total time.It has the standard 285 HP Housai engine but will probably outrun the 360 HP conversions. It will easily outrun every other CJ I have flown with. I cruise at 155 Knots and Steve Culp told me that he flew it at 175 knots. I suspect he was running higher than cruise RPM. It would cost 125,000 to have this plane built as it is. Nanchang CJ-6 for sale, fully restored, very clean, and very fast
