    Description
The Spartan Executive Model 7W was the most popular and well-known aircraft produced by the Spartan Aircraft Company of Tulsa, Oklahoma during the late 1930s and early 1940s. This is the last one built, serial number 34. The first owner was the Texas Oil Products Company, which later became Texaco. The required FAA paperwork is excellent, complete and saved in 3-ring binders. N34SE was completely restored in the 1990’s and recently updated with improvements described below.

    Engine

    Engine Notes
Engine Pratt & Whitney R-985-AN-14B, Serial 11408. The engine starts easily and has operated perfectly. It was majored in 1991 and has since flown 1012hours. It has a Fram HP6A large canister style oil filter system. The engine was recently inspected and serviced, valves adjusted, all cylinders bore scoped. Cylinder compressions 74-77/80. Fuel pump and carburetor overhauled, engine Lord mounts replaced. Oil and Fuel All oil hoses, fuel hoses and fuel drains were replaced in 2012. Braided stainless hoses with fire shielding were installed firewall forward. Most Spartans originally had a 12 Gallon fuel tank just behind the instrument panel. This fuel tank was removed from N34SE to increase safety and to allow depth to install modern avionics. It has a 60 gallon Main Tank plus 60 Aux. Tank = 120 US gallons total. It has a standard engine driven fuel pump plus and electric auxiliary fuel pump.

    Avionics

    Avionics/Radios
This Spartan has a 28 volt electrical system which is not common for Spartans, but highly desirable. It has 100% new wiring, with a Jasco 28 volt alternator and two Gill G35 (12vdc) batteries mounted below the baggage compartment floor. It has Whelen strobe lights, Nav lights, and left/right retractable landing lights on the wing undersides. The cockpit has over head lighting, instrument post lights and internally lighted instruments. Headsets are used for take-off and landing but are often removed during cruise flight because the cockpit noise level is very low. New Garmin GMA 340 Audio Panel with new 4 place audio jacks New David Clark Yoke Push-To-Talk switch and Pilot / Co-Pilot transmit transfer switch New Garmin GNS 430WAAS connected to the Century HSI Compass system Newly overhauled Century ND-360A HSI Compass system King KX-165 Nav-Com with #2 glide slope head New Garmin GTX 327 Transponder New ACK 406 Hz ELT connected to the Garmin GNS 430W Collins ADF Shadin Fuel Flow

Landing Gear The main landing gear retract system is all electric, with a manual hand crank back-up. New main landing gear trunnions (the main gear “hinges”) were machined from 7075 aluminum alloy billets and replaced the (less strong) original factory aluminum sand castings. The main gear struts were serviced with new seals. New modern Cleveland main wheels and disc brakes operated by conventional rudder toe pedals. Polished wheel covers. The BT13 type steering tail wheel has a spring loaded dry clutch and spring centers, then releases when you swing the tail around in a turn.
