    Description
Pilatus Aircraft Limited, the world leader in the production of single turboprop engine aircraft and with over 60 years of experience as a world-wide reputed aircraft manufacturer, has been the pace maker in the field of military turbo prop trainer aircraft. Pilatus has supplied more single engine turbo prop training aircraft to the largest number of military customers in the world than any other supplier in existence to day. The original design criteria of the PC-9 specified a trainer that could realistically simulate jet flight using a turboprop engine, and the PC-9 exceeded all expectations. Built upon a solid foundation of experience with the PC-7 Turbo Trainer, the aircraft shares high manufacturing quality, high reliability and low running costs. The PC-9 completed its first flight in May 1984 and continues to represent the top of the turbo trainer class offering the highest performance and unmatched handling characteristics. The PC-9 has a proven track record. For effective pilot training, it is highly regarded by flying instructors as an aircraft with high performance but forgiving handling, ideal in those phases of training for which it was designed. The PC-9 was the aircraft that convinced training commands of the turboprop advantages for a training aircraft. This has been confirmed by major air forces selecting the PC-9 as their new trainer aircraft. With over 250 aircraft sold to customers in 15 countries worldwide, the PC-9 is still well established as the advanced pilot trainer for the future. Of significance, a PC-9 aircraft, flown by the Pilatus test pilot Hans Ueli Buetschi, was the winner of the Singapore-Paris Air Race in 1990. Details of the air race are as follows: Total Distance: 13,667 nm Total Time. 49 hr 56 min. Fuel used: 12,000 litres. On the Amman-Paris leg the speed attained was 227 mph with a flight time of 10 hr 14 min. The merits of the Pilatus turboprop trainer concept was confirmed in 1995 when the Beech-Pilatus PC-9 Mk II (missionized for the USAF/USN) was selected from the "JPATS" competition for a new trainer aircraft for the US Air Force and US Navy. Designed to fit the needs of future air forces, the PC-9 offers jet-like capabilities at turboprop costs, with lower operational costs than any of the turbo prop competitors in its class, and with Pilatus "Swiss made" precision and quality.
