This is Paul White's award winning Super T-18 known as KONG. This aircraft has won several championships including Reserve Grand Champion at OSH in 1978. In Feb 1979, it was featured on the cover of Sport Aviation. If you take this plane to OSH, you get special parking for previous champions. This Thorp has several unique features that set it apart from any other Thorp including a 200HP Lycoming IO-360 with CS prop, working cowl flaps, wet wings, gap seals and flow fences, and swept vertical fin, 3 axis manual trim and much more. It is a great combination of speed and economy cruising at approx 200 MPH on 9 gal. The long range tanks provide a range with reserves in excess of 1100 miles. About 2 years ago I upgraded the JPI EDM700 to add long term data recording. I have all the detailed engine data since installed which shows normal values and trends. Oil analysis has been performed at every change over the last two years also. Every possible step has been taken to ensure Kong's engine is strong and reliable.
